Neon lights installation precautions

But while neon lights bring beauty to the nightlife, they also bring new fire hazards to the city.

In order to prevent fires caused by the use of neon lights, active and effective preventive measures must be taken from the production, installation, use and maintenance of neon lights.

The production of neon lights must be carried out in strict accordance with manufacturing standards and procedures. If the neon glass tube is not evacuated or the vacuum degree is not enough when making the neon light pattern and text modeling, the glass tube will overheat during operation after filling with gas such as neon or helium, which will cause the transformer to overheat. Internal short circuit. Therefore, the exhaust vacuum degree of the neon tube should reach 10-15Pa, and the filling pressure should reach 1.07-1.33kpa, and it should be maintained well for a long time.

Before installing neon lights, you must understand the power supply capacity of the installation unit, so that the electrical performance of the neon lighting system matches the unit power supply capacity. The number of neon lamp transformers that can be connected to a branch circuit is generally specified as the sum of the rated primary currents of the connected neon lamp transformers, and should be less than 30A. Use transformers of different powers reasonably according to the length of the tube, and no overload or insufficient load is allowed.

The transformer of the neon lamp should be firmly fixed on the support frame, and the base must be made of non-combustible materials. There should be no combustible materials around the neon light transformer, and the height from the ground should not be less than 3m. When the distance is less than 3m, it must be isolated by metal mesh. The neon lamp transformer should be installed near the neon lamp loaded by the transformer. The length of the output line is generally not more than 1m, and the structure does not allow the use of combustible materials. The transformer is connected by fasteners, and the connection between the wire terminal and the wire should have reliable measures to prevent loosening.

The transformer used in neon lights is a special transformer that is different from other types of lighting. This kind of transformer must supply a high voltage of 10000~15000V to break down the gas medium in the neon glass tube and make the tube start to discharge glow. Therefore, the core and the shell of the transformer should have a good connection, and be equipped with a grounding device, and the grounding resistance should not be greater than 1.0Ω. The high-voltage wiring of the neon lamp transformer and the connecting line between the lamp tubes should use a flame-retardant insulated rubber wire with a rated voltage of not less than 15KV, and meet the "Safety and Performance Requirements for Neon Lamp Transformers (Trial)" (ND/T106-1998) Requirements. Neon transformer high-voltage wiring output end, high-voltage wiring connection point, and connection point between high-voltage wiring and lamp tube must be insulated with insulating sheath or insulating cloth, and the distance between high-voltage wiring should not be less than 5cm.

When performing electric welding and oxygen cutting on the steel components used as the support frame of neon lights, it must be carried out by personnel with special work permits. Before construction, combustible materials around the site must be removed, and fire extinguishing equipment must be placed on site to ensure fire safety.

When the neon sign (light box) exceeds the surrounding buildings or 20m above the ground, lightning protection facilities must be installed. The roof of the building is provided with a lightning protection net or a ring-shaped lightning protection belt protection device, and the neon light supporting iron frame can be connected with the roof lightning protection net.

Neon advertisements are not allowed to be installed in hazardous areas in flammable and explosive places. Neon light is a kind of electrical equipment that uses high-voltage electricity to break down inert gas to emit colored light. The power used for it is generally from a 220V single-phase power supply to 10-15KV through a transformer, and then sent to the electrodes at both ends of the tube. The connecting wires from the transformer to the electrode, and between the electrode and the electrode are relatively thin and bear high voltage and low current. The electrode connection is prone to aging and short-circuiting or breaking after long-term exposure to wind, sun and rain. If the two ends of the open circuit are very close, the high voltage can break through the air and continue to be energized, forming a high-temperature arc. Therefore, the installation of neon lights in gas stations, especially above the gas island, does not meet the fire safety requirements of gas stations. If the gas station needs to use neon lights for night propaganda, it should be installed in a safe place outside the station according to the fire protection requirements.

Neon users must strengthen maintenance. Transformers installed outdoors should be cleaned regularly of dirt on insulated terminals to avoid high-voltage air conduction. The length of the exposed tube at the neon tube joint should not exceed 8mm. The electrode lead wire should be sealed firmly and sealed with flame-retardant insulating material. The distance between the lamp tube bracket and the electrode end of the neon lamp is no less than 6cm, and the gap between the neon lamp tubes must be kept no less than 6cm. If neon lights are used as light sources or neon lights are combined with other light sources, the material of the light box should be flame-retardant materials.
