The origin of the neon light's name

As far back as 1898, British chemists Remsey and Traverse discovered a strange and rare gas from liquid air. They sealed the gas in a semi-vacuum glass tube. The two ends of the glass tube are energized, and the glass tube without any color will emit bright and lovely red light.This is how the world’s first neon light was born.

The two chemists are so happy. Facing this strange gas, the interesting "red light", the chemist decided to use the Greek word "new" as the name of this gas. This "red light" is called the "new light".

Since chemists named "red light" "new light", why is it called neon light now? The original pronunciation of the word "new" in Greek is "neon". The word "neon" translates beautifully, and it also means color, so "new lights" are called neon lights.
