The principle of neon light

When the external power circuit is switched on, the output of the transformer will generate a high voltage of several thousand volts or even tens of thousands of volts. When this high voltage is applied to the electrodes at both ends of the neon tube, the charged particles in the neon tube are accelerated in the high-voltage electric field and fly to the electrodes, which can excite a large number of electrons. These excited electrons are accelerated in a high-voltage electric field and collide with the gas atoms in the tube. When the energy of these electrons colliding with the free gas atoms is large enough, the gas atoms can be ionized to become positive ions and electrons, which is the phenomenon of gas ionization. In the collision between charged particles and gas atoms, the excess energy is emitted in the form of photons, which completes the entire process of neon lighting.
